CAFAA IN-PERSON CLASSROOM TRAINING

The California Automatic Fire Alarm Association (CAFAA) in partnership with Fire Protection Education (FPE) is

launching in-person Fire Alarm training at a Northern and at a Southern California location in September 2024

The course that is being offered in both regions is:


    'NEW CBC and CFC requirements, effective 7/1/2024, for Fire Alarm and Signaling systems based on occupancy types'    


The class will include the following topics:

  1. The CA Fire Code (CFC) and Building Code (CBC) have been updated in the mid code cycle and in effect since 7/1/2024 – All changes related to FA and Signaling systems will be presented
  2. Clarify the different types of occupancies per the CBC and the specific requirements per each occupancies
  3. Clarify the interface between the CFC&CBC and the NFPA Standards NFPA 72 and NFPA 1225 (for ERRCS)
  4. Clarify the different types and specific Fire Protection systems required for each occupancy
  5. Clarify the specific requirements for Building FA systems Vs. Dedicated Function(s) FA systems per each specific occupancy
  6. Clarify Required Vs. Non-Required/Voluntary systems requirement
  7. Clarify specific requirements for NEW construction and Tenant Improvement Vs. Existing buildings

Materials Provided:  

Each student will receive a HARD copy booklet (2-slide per page format, double-sided) at the training site.

Training General Information: 

Five and one-quarter (5.25) Continuing Education Hours (CEH) will be awarded to students on completion of training.  The CEHs can be converted to Continuing Education Units (CEUs) by the WBFAA.

Class size is limited in both locations.  We will implement a wait-list process and encourage you to add yourself to the waitlist as that will be a gauge to us that the class should be re-offered.

Our goal for in-person training is to be able to offer at least one in-person training session, in each region, in each calendar quarter. 

FPE and CAFAA will be developing new course material to meet the ever-changing needs of our membership, for a fresh, high-quality, California-centric curriculum.

Sagiv Weiss-Ishai, P.E. (Calif. Licensed Fire Protection Engineer) is the principal trainer for FPE and will be the instructor for the two sessions in August.

  • 27 yrs. experience in Fire Protection Engineering
  • Principal AHJ member – NFPA 72 Technical Committee SIG-PRO since 2012
  • AHJ Member national elevator safety Code ASME A17.1 – Emergency Operations & Hoistway Technical committees
  • NFPA 72 and ASME A17.1 Task Group member on Fire Service Access Elevators & Occupant Evacuation Elevators
  • AHJ Member – Calif. State Fire Alarm Code Advisory Committee
  • Chair of the elevator committee for the CA Existing Building Code
  • Served as Fire Code Official on the Calif State – Bldg. Fire & Other Code Advisory Committee to the Calif. Bldg. Stds. Commission
  • AHJ Member 2019-2020 CSFM Elevator Work Group to Changes in CBC Chapter 30 – Elevators
  • Past President – Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) of the Nevada-Northern CA Chapter

    Course Fee:

    • $199/each California FPOs
    • $299/each for employees of a CAFAA member company
    • $399/each for employees of a non-CAFAA member company

    CAFAA WEB-BASED TRAINING

    CAFAA, in partnership with Jensen Hughes, offers a full spectrum of web-based Fire Alarm courses.  You do not have to be a CAFAA member to take advantage of those offerings.
