The California Automatic Fire Alarm Association (CAFAA) in partnership with Fire Protection Education (FPE) is

launching in-person Fire Alarm training at a Northern and at a Southern California location in August 2025 

The course that is being offered in both regions is:


'FIRE ALARM DESIGN FOR RESIDENTUAL, EDUCATIONAL, AND HIGH-RISE OCCUPANCY'

The class will include the following topics:

  • The 2025 California Building and Fire codes (CBC & CFC) were published on July 1st, 2025, and will become effective in CA on January 1st, 2026. This training will review and discuss the specific 2025 CBC and CFC requirements for Fire Alarm and Signaling Systems required for Residential (R-1 and R-2), Educational (E and I-4) and High-Rise occupancies. 
  • The training will discuss and clarify the specific NFPA 72-2025 design and installation requirements for the Fire Alarm and Signaling systems required in those occupancies such as Emergency Voice Alarm Communications System (EVACS) Vs. Tone based systems with High and Low-Frequency audibility requirements, One-way and Two-Way Emergency Communications systems, and all other life-safety and emergency systems having interface with the Fire Alarm system such as automatic sprinklers, fire-pumps, pre-action and suppression systems, smoke-control, elevators, radio enhancement (ERRCS/ERCES), emergency generators and more. Systems calculations (Battery capacity, voltage drop and audible/visual coverage) and permit plans submittal will be discussed and clarified. 
Materials Provided:  

        Each student will receive a HARD copy booklet (2-slide per page format, double-sided) at the training site. No electronic copies will be sent. 

        Training General Information: 

        Five and one-quarter (5.25) Continuing Education Hours (CEH) will be awarded to students on completion of training.  The CEHs can be converted to Continuing Education Units (CEUs) by the WBFAA. There is no cost for conversion if you are a WBFAA member. Cost may apply to non-members.

        FPE and CAFAA will be developing new course material to meet the ever-changing needs of our membership, for a fresh, high-quality, California-centric curriculum.

        Sagiv Weiss-Ishai, P.E. (Calif. Licensed Fire Protection Engineer) is the principal trainer for FPE and will be the instructor for the two sessions in August.

        • 27 yrs. experience in Fire Protection Engineering
        • Principal AHJ member – NFPA 72 Technical Committee SIG-PRO since 2012
        • AHJ Member national elevator safety Code ASME A17.1 – Emergency Operations & Hoistway Technical committees
        • NFPA 72 and ASME A17.1 Task Group member on Fire Service Access Elevators & Occupant Evacuation Elevators
        • AHJ Member – Calif. State Fire Alarm Code Advisory Committee
        • Chair of the elevator committee for the CA Existing Building Code
        • Served as Fire Code Official on the Calif State – Bldg. Fire & Other Code Advisory Committee to the Calif. Bldg. Stds. Commission
        • AHJ Member 2019-2020 CSFM Elevator Work Group to Changes in CBC Chapter 30 – Elevators
        • Past President – Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) of the Nevada-Northern CA Chapter

          Course Fee:

          • $199/each California FPOs
          • $299/each for employees of a CAFAA member company
          • $399/each for employees of a non-CAFAA member company
